Gym, Training, and Happy Jumps
Training in the gym is how you gain battle stats in Torn. If you're not using your e to attack, you should be training!
The 4 Gym Stats
Strength
- ▸Increases the damage you deal each hit.
Defense
- ▸Reduces the damage you take per hit.
Speed
- ▸Increases your chance of hitting your opponent.
- ▸Decreases your opponent's chance of escaping from you.
Dexterity
- ▸Increases your chance of dodging an attack.
- ▸Increases your chance of stealthing an attack.
- ▸Decreases your opponent's chance of stealthing an attack.
- ▸Increases your chance of escaping from an opponent.
Gyms
Each gym is more or less effective in training different stats. As you train, you'll unlock better and more specialized gyms. Pay attention to which stats are best to train for each gym.
Specialist Gyms
Once you've worked your way through the regular gym ladder, Torn opens up specialist gyms. These focus your training into one or two stats — with better gains in their specialty than any regular gym — but lock you out of training the others while you're a member. Joining one usually requires your stats to be shaped a certain way (the specialty stat(s) must be meaningfully higher than the rest), so plan your build before you commit.
Frontline Fitness
Strength & SpeedThe attacker's gym. Choose this if you're building a hit-hard, hit-first offensive build.
Balboas Gym
Defense & DexterityThe defensive counterpart. Ideal for tank builds that want to survive attacks and dodge incoming hits.
Gym 3000
Strength onlyThe highest strength gains in the game. For dedicated one-punch builds committed to raw damage.
Mr. Isoyama's
Defense onlyMaximum defense training for players who want to be unbreakable walls.
Total Rebound
Speed onlyMaximum speed training — land your hits and stop opponents escaping.
Elites Gym
Dexterity onlyMaximum dexterity training — dodge, stealth, and slip away at will.
The Sports Science Lab
All four statsThe end-game gym: strong gains across the board, but it requires Last Round unlocked and a maximum of 150 Xanax and Ecstasy combined taken in total — see the warning below.
Fight Club
All four statsThe highest gym dots in the game at the lowest energy cost. Membership by invite only — the unlock requirements are not publicly known.

Common Stat Spreads
The Torn community has converged on a few named stat ratios, built around one goal: qualifying for as many specialist gyms as possible, since their higher gym dots mean faster total gains.
Hank's Ratio (~35% Str / 28% Def / 28% Spd / 9% Dex)
The max-efficiency build. By deliberately dumping one stat to around 9% of your total (usually Dexterity), your other three stats qualify for two specialist gyms at once — the highest overall gym gains in the game. The trade-off: that dumped stat stays weak, and if you ever change your mind, digging out of Hank's takes a very long time. Variants exist (e.g., Dex-primary: Dex at Elites, Str+Spd at Frontline Fitness, Def at George's), but running it with Strength or Speed as the dumped stat is not recommended — low speed means you miss constantly; low strength means your hits do nothing.
Baldr's Ratio (~35% Str / 25% Def / 20% Spd / 20% Dex)
The forgiving alternative, from the same Baldr as the target list. Two stats train in specialist gyms while the build stays close to balanced. Slightly lower total gains than Hank's, but much easier to pivot later. The usual recommendation: if you're not 100% sure you want Hank's, use Baldr's.
Balanced (roughly equal)
Fine while you're still working through the regular gym ladder (which is where everyone under level 15 lives anyway). Pick Hank's or Baldr's before you start approaching specialist-gym territory, not after.
Strategy:Don't rush into a single-stat gym early — the stat-shape requirements mean an unbalanced build is hard to undo later. A common path is: regular gyms until they're maxed, then a paired gym (Frontline or Balboas) matching your build, then single-stat gyms only if you're committed to a specialized build. When in doubt, ask in the faction Discord before switching.
There is no right or wrong stat to train — there are multiple viable builds. In the beginning, we recommend focusing on Strength and Defense until you reach level 15.
How to Train Efficiently
There are a few things that contribute to your training effectiveness:
- ▸Gym: The better the gym, the bigger the gains!
- ▸Happy: The higher the happy, the bigger the gains!
- ▸Education: Sports Science - Permanent % boost to overall gym gains
- ▸Steadfast Faction Perk - Up to 20% boost to certain stats (we are currently investing in this perk and will announce when it rotates!)
- ▸Training Books - Several Rare, Single Use, 30 day Training Boosts to Certain or All Stats

When training you'll see a box with 1 in it — that's how many trains you do per click. Each train uses energy and reduces your happy a little, so you want to change this to 999 and do your full train in one click!
Training Books
Gym gain books all last 31 days — the rule of thumb from the forums is to save any gym book for a month when you can train hard the whole time, ideally with energy cans/FHCs stacked up, rather than burning it on a casual month. Remember - you can only use a book ONE time, EVER!Don't waste it!
Get Hard Or Go Home
(+20% all stats)Best when you're training all four stats fairly evenly (balanced build or still working up through the early gyms) — the specific 30% books beat it if you only care about one stat.
Gym Grunting - Shouting To Success
(+30% Strength)Use during a month where you're dumping all your energy into Strength, ideally while perked at a Strength-specialist gym.
Self Defense In The Workplace
(+30% Defense)Same idea — use it for a dedicated Defense-only training month at a Defense-focused gym.
Speed 3 – The Rejected Script
(+30% Speed)Use for an all-in Speed month, especially if you're pushing toward or training in a Speed-specialist gym.
Limbo Lovers 101
(+30% Dexterity)Use for a focused Dexterity month; pairs naturally with a Dexterity-specialist gym.
Higher Daddy, Higher!
(+20% energy regeneration)More natural energy all month — pairs well with any training-book month, or a month where you're grinding attacks and gym time alike.
Special mechanics books
Ignorance is Bliss
The most valuable book in the game — use it when you're ready to do a full happy-jump month (erotic DVDs + ecstasy to hit huge happiness, Xanax/energy stacked), since it keeps your happiness from resetting so every train that month lands at massive happy multipliers. This is the book used in the Level 4 — 9x EDVD Jump below.
❗ If you plan on reading a training book, let us know so we can mark you exempt from chaining for those 31 days. You should maximize the benefit of the book and spend all of your e on training. We recommend lining this up with our rotating Steadfast perks.
Happy
Your happy level is critical to how many stats you gain when training. How high your happy can go is determined mainly by which property you live in.
Shack
DefaultEveryone starts here. Gives a base happy of 100.
Mansion
Faction Lease — $1Our faction will lease you a fully upgraded Mansion for $1, giving you a base happy of 1000. If you need one, message Gigamork on Discord and he can send you a lease.
Private Island
End GameThe best property in the game. Upgrade to this once you can afford to lease or buy one.
Happy Jumping
Happy Jumping is a process of temporarily boosting your Happy way above your base Happy. Since this process requires you to consume boosters that can cost a good bit of $, people also tend to stack as much energy as possible to take full advantage of the expense.
This is the most effective way to gain stats early on (until you reach ~400k per stat (or ~800k if you work at a 10 star Adult Novelty Store)). After 400k on each stat, you will switch to using 1-3 Xanax per day and using your natural e to train during your drug cooldown.
There are multiple tiers of Happy Jumps depending on your financial situation - use the highest one you can afford!
The eDVD jump is very expensive and will cause you to build a drug addiction. It is recommended you don't do an eDVD jump until level 15 as then you can fly to rehab. You may also want to take out Happy Jump insurance on the chance you overdose while taking the Ecstasy.
