Chaining

How faction chaining works and how to be a great chain participant.

What is Chaining?

  • Chaining is a way for factions to earn Respect
  • Respect is what factions "spend" to unlock faction-wide perks
  • By multiple faction members collectively making hits on targets in the same time frame, we increase a "Chain Counter" which gives us a slowly increasing Respect Multiplier.
  • A 5-minute timer restarts after each successful attack. If no hit is made before the timer runs out, the chain "breaks" and goes into cooldown. There is no way to revive a chain once it breaks.
  • You should always LEAVE all targets you defeat during a chain — this gives maximum respect.
  • There are milestone hits in the chain that give bonus respect. Higher milestones will be assigned by leadership so all faction members can unlock these merits

Do I Have to Chain?

  • Yes — we expect weekly participation in our Saturday chain with a minimum of 200 chain hits per month.
  • Chains are an opportunity for ALL members to contribute towards the betterment of the faction, gain personal XP, and earn a long list of merits.
  • It doesn't matter if you're a new player or have 1b stats — all hits count.
  • Longer chains run 24h+, allowing players from all time zones a chance to participate.

“Stacking Xanax” or “Stacking e” — What Does it Mean?

Prepping for chains involves taking multiple Xanax (starting ~30h before the chain) to build up to 1,000 energy so you can make the maximum number of hits.

  • Xanax has a 6–8hr cooldown before you can take another. If you only open Torn once a day, you may need to start earlier.
  • During its cooldown, Xanax debuffs all fighting stats by -35%. Take your 4th Xanax at least 6–8 hours before chain start so you're not weakened when it begins.
  • Unless you OD, any member can get 40 hits from the initial 1000e stack alone (4 Xanax).
  • After using 1,000e, you can refill energy with 30 points (150e) = 6 more hits.
  • If you have no drug cooldown, take your 5th Xanax (250e) = 10 more hits (be aware of the debuff). Great time to hit weakened targets coming out of hospital with low health.

How Do I Know Who to Attack?

Find Max Respect Targets (x3.00 Fair Fight)

  • The fair fight (FF) multiplier ranges between 1x and 3x based on the target's battle stats relative to yours.
  • Attacking someone with roughly 75% of your total battle stats or higher yields a FF of 3x. This is the goal!
  • The lower a target's stats are compared to yours, the more the FF multiplier leans towards 1x.
  • Targets giving 3+ respect on a regular hit will give 4–7 respect (or more) during chains.
  • It is NOT recommended to keep Active Users on your Target List - they may get stronger in between chains, and you'll likely make it on a hit list.

Target Sources

  • Mission Targets — Previously defeated targets from recent Duke missions are great to add to your list. Do not attack new mission targets unless you know you can come out unscathed.
  • Baldr's List — Good for newer players around or under level 15.
  • You can also use Torn Lab's Radar to find targets.
  • Donator Pack Users — Use Search Binoculars to find inactive players around your level not in factions. Always test before the chain and only add easy targets that give 3+ respect.

While these are generally trusted for use by the Torn Community, sign up at your own discretion.

⚠️ Level is NOT a reliable indicator of strength — always test targets first!

💪 The older an account, the more likely they are strong. Check their Xanax/Ecstasy usage stats.

Organizing & Tracking Targets

  • In-Game Target List — Limited functionality and count.
  • YATA — Highly recommended! Add your target's Torn ID and sort/filter/monitor in many ways.
  • Torn PDA — Highly recommended for mobile! Includes dynamic Target List functionality.

Temporary Weapons

Use temps strategically. Always have one equipped for emergencies.

Managing Medical Cooldown & Health

  • Avoid difficult opponents during the chain.
  • Med only when you can get full benefit — don't waste it.
  • Avoid maxing your Medical Cooldown.
  • If you're reaching your max cooldown, target opponents who don't damage you.
  • Hit your highest FF targets first so you can re-hit them after hospital with low HP. The priority is always 50+ hits and keeping the chain going.
  • Always have a solid backup target list that doesn't damage you.

Help! I'm About to Lose a Fight!

  • Copy/paste your fight link to #chain-talk in Discord.
  • Ask for help! Someone will jump in to keep you from going to the hospital.

Holding / Calling Hits

  • As milestones approach, check #chain-talk before hitting.
  • HOLD = Stop attacking and wait for instructions.
  • Leadership assigns bonus hits at hit 250 and above to help everyone earn milestone merits.
